Principles of Abundance Part 1: Purpose
We keep running into the parts of us where we are not whole, individually and together, but there’s a drive within us to go further. In Unity we understand that we always have the capacity to open to greater abundance, in relationship, health, or finances. We’ll look at several ways, but I thought I’d start with the hard one—purpose.
Have you ever thought to yourself, “What in the world are you doing here in this Earth experience?! —again?” Well, we all do the learn and grow thing and know we are co-creators, that we came in this time to give, to lift the consciousness to a higher level. But what is my purpose? I know the more I am aligned with it the more enthusiastically the universe pours my blessings in. The more we open to it, the more easy it comes. Divine intelligence is extremely efficient.
Edwene Gaines teaches we are children of God, but children grow up. When we live according to our purpose, it is part of growing up. She says God gave us an inner guidance system—it is the part of us that feels joy. Good news! It is the part that makes your heart sing!
I shared with you meeting Reverend Mary Wessel. How when I stepped into her room I saw the love flowing out from her. She was 105! As a young mother she had come down with a terminal illness. Unity publications told her how we can direct divine power in our bodies and heal, and she found healing. She joyously shared this with others all around Montana, and Unity churches were established. Once on the train she shared with a gentleman who turned out to be the owner of the railroad. He gave her a free pass to travel anywhere on his railroad in support of her work. This doesn’t happen if you’re looking the other way! She was on her purpose. It’s a conspiracy of the universe. God is on your side! Jesus taught, “Is it not written in your law, ‘I said, “You are gods” ‘ ?…I have come that you may have life, and that you may have it more abundantly.” You can’t get it if you’re going in another direction!
As we get on purpose we open wider. Edwene Gaines says to get out of the daily grind. Find solitude. Listen to that which you long to do, to the yearnings of your soul. For Mary Wessel it was first being a mother, then healing, sharing it, then being in her room in prayer. What I did was to imagine I was at the end of my life thinking of the things I had done. Some were beautiful, some were “so what!” If you’re not ready for change don’t do this. If you are ready, ask, “What’s yours?” You’ll see ways to let the flow in, how it will provide for you. In the stillness throughout the coming week, say “Joyfully, I understand my purpose.” It’s just an opening to let it come. It is joyful. “Joyfully, I understand my purpose.” “Joyfully, I understand my purpose.” “Joyfully, I understand my purpose.” You came here to bless, to leave the world with greater consciousness than when you entered. For you to be willing to do this, I thank you!

December 16, 2012 – Mary, Joseph, and You – On Purpose
12/16/12 Rev. David McArthur
Mary, Joseph, and You—On Purpose
This is a season of giving, loving, joy and celebration, and, yes, spending too much. Go for it! It is all about God, and our awareness of this is strong. This is a “Wow!” time. We have never before been empowered at this level. It is an incredible gift being given to all of us.
The Christmas story is our story of how we are, of truth. Our connection with the flow of higher consciousness is symbolized by the angels. The angel appearing to Mary is about how we receive that higher understanding of purpose into our lives. This might sometimes be rough. In Mary’s time, it could have meant stoning and death to accept, as an unmarried woman, her purpose of bearing the child Jesus. But acceptance of purpose brings together the pieces necessary for fulfillment of your purpose. Joseph dreamt of an angel (his connection to higher consciousness) which told him of Mary’s situation and his purpose. He said yes, and the things necessary came through.
Bonnie Shimp came to Unity when she was unemployed. She asked, “How do I put my life together?” She committed to her path. Things were slow, and didn’t seem to change much. Sometimes it’s hard for the universe to support us when we’re headed in the opposite direction. She looked deeply at “why am I here?” and experienced a connection with her purpose. She got it. She was radiant, but had no idea how it was to come about.
The first Christmas night the shepherds were called in to support the unfolding story. When we are on purpose the universe calls in what is needed. Bonnie’s intuition moved her to answer an old ad at a feedstore. Her head told her the job was already filled. But she asked! It was an intuitive knowing that this was a step to an old dream she had long suppressed. Resolution came to things of the past, and she stepped into her purpose. She now has her dream career.
Most of our purpose is “inner”. What we do, we do now with greater love so we are a greater force of love. The UN has said there is less conflict in the world now than there has been in the last 100 years! We go forward in a way that creates harmony in our world. It is our time to make it real. It is only God. It is only good. It is only divine purpose! Say, I am open to divine purpose unfolding through me.
What a beautiful birth of divine purpose is taking place now because of you!

September 19, 2010 – Discover The Divine Mystery
Reverends Revs. Larry Winn and David McArthur
When you made the commitment to come into this life, everything was put in place for you to accomplish your purpose. When you are on purpose, the universe shows up. But we get the amazing experience of “interruption”. There is value in that experience– our interruptions are divine invitation to a greater purpose.
For example, when you complain, you draw complainers to you and you are surrounded by complaining people. When that is interrupted, you have a choice. We know every thing is God, even when it seems something is not of God. If divine order really is in that interruption, then there is a greater purpose calling to us. We are free to choose it or turn it down.
Jesus, as we need to do, met life in the consciousness in which he lived, and then stepped to the next level, and then the next. In the story of the Canaanite woman, she asked that her daughter be healed. Jesus responded that he was to heal the children of Israel, not to throw their bread to the dogs. She responded with non-resistance, no ego. She knew that her daughter could be healed. Her love for her daughter and her faith that she could be healed awakened Jesus, and He recognized the beauty of the spiritual self of anyone. This interruption awakened Him to a greater purpose.
With every interruption we can journey from our head to our heart. If it’s all God, it’s all love. Look at the interruption as being a call to a higher purpose. The universe loves us so much we have many, many interruptions. At those times, say,
“Divine Love, I am Your instrument. Live Your purpose through me.”
